We'd been giving our cocker spaniel a daily Denta Stix for dental care and thought we were doing our share of his dental care. WRONG!!! Fudge is only 3 and his teeth were discolored and covered in tartar. It wasn't the worst case, but it was bad enough. I immediatly thought of how we lost our cat due to gum disease and thought I would never lose a pet due to dental issues again. Next I thought of how dangerous it is to put them under anesthesia. I'd be lying if I didn't say the expense wasn't of a concern. However, there is NOTHING we wouldn't do for their health. We went to Petco to see if they had some kind of toothpaste that helped remove plaque and tartar and hubby saw this product. It cost $20 in the store and I thought that was a lot for a small bottle of gel, but it claimed to do exactly what I needed so we purchased it. I went home and did some research but could only find reviews for a product called Petzlife. It's also a gel and the results on their site were... Read more

I have a miniature Daschund named Sophie who is rather feisty, trying to brush her teeth simply ended with both of us angry at each other. She's just a year old, but I could already see plaque build up on her teeth. I asked the groomers at petco and they suggested this product, even showing me before and after pictures of their own pets. It's been (lets see thurs, fri, sat, sun, mon) 5 days and there is already an improvement. I take up her water 30 minutes before and use about the same size (if maybe a bit smaller) that I would use on my own toothbrush. so about 1/2 teaspoon. She licks her lips when I grab the bottle. You don't need to be horribly thurough, I quickly rub it on her teeth inside and out and stop. She licks her chops for a moments and I put down her water (+ water additive) and she's doing great! I highly suggest this product if you and your dog are thinking about getting a divorce over teeth issues.

3.0 out of 5 stars More of a question/concern than a review....., June 29, 2010

I purchased this product for my cat and have used it about half a dozen times over the past 2 weeks or so. She has pretty bad teeth and breath. Today, while I was getting her hand scraped for plaque, I was advised by my holistic vet to be wary about using this gel unless I can confirm what the "natural cleanser" is. If you look at their water additive product, it lists sodium benzoate as an ingredient. A cat's liver cannot metabolize sodium benzoate. Therefore, it should not be used on cats. The concern is that sodium benzoate may also be used, but unspecified, in the gel product as part of the "natural cleanser" ingredients. Thoughts anyone?
