Well first of all, the description is correct but the picture is wrong. This product is actually one tube of toothpaste, a traditional handle style toothbrush and a soft rubber tip that goes on your finger (kind of like a thimble) with gentle brushes to massage your cat's gums as you teach him how to get his teeth brushed.With less trouble than you might expect, you can teach your cat to tolerate, if not completely enjoy, getting his or her teeth brushed on a regular basis. We have three cats and we brush their teeth every day. Every time we take them for their checkups, the vet remarks that their teeth are in excellent condition with little plaque or tartar buildup. And, as we all know, good dental health should help contribute to overall health and a long life. While none of our cats actually beg to get their teeth brushed, they all seem to enjoy the flavor of the malt toothpaste, and submit pretty gracefully to the procedure. We read that 25% of all cat visits to the vet are related to poor dental care. We had also noticed our two kitties' breath not doing so well. Toothbrushing is absolutely a necessity for cats, you just don't want to risk the financial and mental health costs (and the guilt of knowing you should have done more). This set seemed like an excellent starter kit, both toothpaste AND two kinds of brushes. Sweet deal, right? Not entirely.One cat loves the malt flavor, the other is indifferent. The thumb brush was an interesting training device, but the cats did not like the small red toothbrush at all. I noticed the bristles felt pretty hard and stiff. One cat even struggled a bit and the tough bristles cut her gum. I wouldn't use the hardness of the brush myself, so I figured I'd spare my cats as well after that incident. Like the other reviewers mentioned, this comes as a tube of toothpaste, a long skinny toothbrush with a small head, and a finger brush. The toothpaste has a good scent and my cat was perplexed but enjoyed it. Afterwards her breath was clean smelling. The brush is not a kind that she likes (she prefers a longer bristle so she can chew on it) but it's definitely not bad for getting her back molars.. if I were in the mood to use two toothbrushes. |
